Tai Kwun Contemporary cordially invites audiences of all ages to participate in this year's Unboxing 2025: Symphony of Light. The Unboxing series returns this summer, continuing last year's exhibition format that broke down the barriers between the museum and the 'White Cube'. This interactive art project will be held at Tai Kwun from 5 July to 3 August 2025, challenging the conventional aspects of art creation and inviting the audience to become co-creators.
Unboxing explores new ways of combining art and community participation, offering an alternative to traditional curatorial approaches and opening up possibilities for the future development of museums. This year's project is led by Japanese artist, Shinji Ohmaki, whose work, Symphony of Light, is part of his ongoing Resonance Infinity series. Through interactive collaboration, the artist and the audience will explore themes of memory, time, and the creation of light. Participants will draw unique floral patterns, allowing the artwork to spread and blossom within the museum space.
During the creative process, the audience will not only take part in the birth of the artwork but also collectively construct an ever-evolving shared space, weaving personal memories and emotions into the piece. Ultimately, this collective art creation will present a rich interpretation of cultural diversity in relation to identity and meaning. This installation art is a celebration of the diverse cultural perspectives of Hong Kong, Asia, and the world, coming together as a symphony of light—both the inner radiance within individuals and the spectrum created when people come together.
We warmly invite the public to embark on this captivating artistic journey, exploring the multifaceted nature of identity with family, friends, and other visitors, leaving their unique creative mark at Tai Kwun Contemporary. Details of the event are as follows:
